This is not your ordinary conference!
Find your tribe. Life on Fire seeks to gather together people committed to living missionally – living lives of radical integrity based deeply in their faith or values at the crossroads of personal and community life. This will be a community of mutual education, support and inspiration. It’s not about bringing in “experts” or big-name church planters. It’s about learning with and from one another’s experiences and experiments, and helping visions and plans get set into motion. This is mostly an unconference! The agenda for the Saturday events unconference style is set by who is in the room. The three-fold model of Discerning, Dreaming, Doing is so people can connect with others who are in a similar missional oriented space as they are, to go deeper into these areas, but they are not “workshops” and the people in the room emerge the questions and issues to address under the umbrella area; people can shift between groups exploring areas. Believing that whomever is there is the right community at the time, facilitators will help the group discern where there is the most energy, and then convene small groups around those topics. Possible topics could be things like creating intentional living communities, reclaiming abandoned places, planting new communities of faith/values, mission in the suburbs, social media and mission, etc. You bring your own ideas, dreams and experiences! See this helpful website for information about How to Attend an Unconference.
Mission is for All Ages. The whole family is invited. There will be childcare for the very youngest, and engaging activities related to how we decide what matters and what we do about it for children. Middle schoolers and older are invited to come and participate alongside adults, lending their own questions and experiences to enrich all of us.
Go deep. The leadership for the conference will include several spiritual directors available to meet with people of any faith or no faith for discernment, exploring your own spiritual journey, or just listening for the next steps. Spiritual direction will happen both in individual and group settings.
Gather for Mission and Worship. We will offer opportunities to work with our hosts in food community mission and blight to beauty projects; service projects for all ages and abilities. We will offer inclusive contemplative, centering, vibrant and dynamic worship as part of the conference and elsewhere in the Tulsa area community. Our host faith communities are an ecumenical Christian universalist missional community as an emerging congregation in the Unitarian Universalist Association, and a local partner church, Turley United Methodist Church.
